Berlin Hauptbahnhof is Germany's busiest railway station, handling 300,000 passengers daily. The Southern Concourse extension adds 14,800 m² of covered platform space — a glass-and-steel canopy spanning four ICE high-speed platforms without interrupting service.

The design integrates structural steel ribs with electrochromic glazing that adjusts opacity based on solar gain, reducing cooling loads by 35%. Construction sequencing required 847 overnight possessions over three years, with zero service cancellations during peak hours.

The concourse includes a new passenger interchange linking the S-Bahn, U-Bahn, and regional rail levels through a series of escalator banks and a 40 m span glass bridge. When complete in 2027, it will increase the station's capacity by 40% and serve as the primary hub for the Berlin–Munich ICE Sprinter route.
