Civic & Health

Hospitals, universities, transit hubs.

Civic & Health delivers the buildings that communities depend on most — hospitals that must never close, universities built for centuries, and transit hubs processing millions of passengers a year. Our practice has completed 118 facilities across 14 countries, each designed for a fifty-year operational life with no acceptable failure mode. We bring integrated mechanical, electrical, and public health engineering in-house, ensuring that infection control, air handling, and backup power systems are designed from day one, not bolted on later.

Hospitals represent our largest sub-category, and for good reason. Healthcare buildings are the most technically complex structures in the built environment — requiring HTM-compliant ventilation, redundant power with 15-second transfer times, medical gas pipeline systems, sterile supply chains, and radiation shielding. Wepex has delivered 34 hospital projects totalling 28,000 beds, and every one of them was delivered with a full in-house MEP team that understood the clinical requirements before the first duct was drawn.

Beyond healthcare, our civic portfolio includes university campuses, courts and government buildings, airport terminals, and transit hubs. What these buildings share is a requirement for relentless reliability. A hospital A&E department cannot close because a chiller failed. A transit hub cannot shut because a wayfinding system confused passengers. Wepex's approach — self-performed MEP, integrated digital delivery, and commissioning specialists who start on day one — delivers this reliability as a matter of process, not luck.

Key Projects

Featured projects

Royal London Hospital — Atrium Restoration

Complex phased renovation of a Grade II listed hospital atrium while maintaining full clinical operations across 4 connected wards. Infection control barriers, negative-pressure zones, and HEPA-filtered temporary ventilation enabled zero healthcare-associated infections during construction.

King Faisal Specialist Hospital — Expansion

440-bed oncology and cardiac centre of excellence in Riyadh. Included 14 operating theatres, 3 hybrid cath labs, a proton beam therapy vault with 3 m concrete shielding, and a helipad for emergency transfers. Delivered on a fast-track 34-month programme.

Dubai Creek Harbour — Tower 7 Transit Hub

180,000 m² integrated transit hub connecting metro, water taxi, and bus modes. Features a 30 m span cable-net roof, real-time passenger flow modelling by WEPEX/Lab, and a district cooling connection serving 12 surrounding towers.

Full lifecycle delivery

Wepex Civic & Health operates across the full project lifecycle — from clinical briefing and stakeholder engagement through detailed design, self-performed construction and MEP installation, commissioning, and post-occupancy evaluation. Our integrated approach means every project benefits from cross-discipline expertise, shared digital infrastructure, and a supply chain honed over three decades.
