Marine & Ports

Terminals, locks, dry docks, breakwaters.

Marine & Ports is where Wepex began — with a single dredging and quay wall contract at the Port of Houston in 1976. Today, the division operates 29 active port and marine projects globally, from LNG terminals in the Gulf to container ports in Southeast Asia. Our in-house marine engineering team handles everything from bathymetric survey and sediment transport modelling to caisson fabrication and breakwater design. If a nation rests on its coastline, we work where the rock meets the salt.

The division maintains a fleet of specialised marine plant including dredgers, piling barges, crane vessels, and cable lay ships — operated by Wepex Marine Services, our in-house marine logistics arm. This fleet capability, combined with our permanent marine engineering staff of 460, means we can self-perform up to 85% of a typical port project by value. The result is faster delivery, tighter cost control, and fewer interface disputes than the contractor-stacked project teams common in the sector.

Port modernisation is the defining challenge for the industry. Container vessels have grown from 8,000 TEU to 24,000 TEU in a decade, requiring deeper channels, wider turning basins, and STS cranes with 65 m outreach. At the same time, ports must decarbonise their operations, automate container handling, and integrate with inland logistics. Wepex Marine & Ports is one of the few firms with the breadth to deliver all of these elements under an integrated programme.

Gulf Coast Terminal — Phase III Expansion

New 2.4M TEU container terminal with 2,400 m of quay wall, automated stacking yard, and rail-mounted gantry cranes. Dredged 14M m³ of material to achieve -18 m draft. Delivered 3 months ahead of schedule.

Jubail Industrial Port Expansion

440 m of new bulk cargo berths, 280 m of general cargo quay, and a 200,000 DWT dry dock. Included 6.2M m³ of dredging, 340,000 m³ of reclamation, and a 1.2 km rubble-mound breakwater in 12 m water depth.

Fujairah LNG Import Terminal

316,000 m³ LNG storage (3 full-containment tanks), a 2.4 km jetty with mooring dolphins, and a 1.8 MTPA regasification facility. Constructed in 38°C peak temperatures with zero environmental incidents.

Full lifecycle delivery

Wepex Marine & Ports operates across the full project lifecycle — from bathymetric survey and sediment transport modelling through detailed design, dredging and marine construction, commissioning, and long-term terminal operation. Our integrated approach means every project benefits from cross-discipline expertise, shared digital infrastructure, and a supply chain honed over four decades.
